Today I’m reviewing ”Do Us a Flavor Finalist” chip that has a wonderful overall taste, but doesn’t portray it’s name flavor wise. It’s the Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese Chip & here is my take on it.
For those not familiar with the Do Us a Flavor, it’s a contest where people pitch potato chip flavors to Lay’s. The pitching portion of the contest was from January- March, people pitched all sorts of flavors. Now Lay’s has chosen there 3 finalist flavors which are Crispy Taco, Fried Green Tomatoes & Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese. Now you can find these chips in stores all across America & vote for your favorite one, on the Lays website. The winner of the contest wins 1 Million Dollars. Now that you know more about the contest, let’s get into the review of the chip.
Lindsay Hoffman- the creator of the chip.
My first impression of the chip is that it doesn’t taste bad by any means, but it tastes like Cheddar & Sour Cream Chips not an Everything Bagel. I wish they dialed the cheese down a little and had a more poppy seed, seasme and garlic flavor. When you bite into the chip at first the flavors explode in your mouth, then 2 seconds later the flavor gradually fades aways into your standard chip. This is a Kettle Cooked chip so it is crunchier than regular chips, but I think that was a mistake on their part. Bagels aren’t super crunchy; the bread on the inside is soft and the outer bread is toasted but not crunchy. All in all, this chip get a 4/5 taste, but a 2/5 for accuracy of the flavor. The flavors didn’t scream everything bagel with cream cheese. To this chip there are 3 flavor components- the cream cheese, bagel and the seeds.
Cream Cheese- it tastes like cheddar cheese vs cream cheese, which I don’t hate
Bagel- in this chip there is a hint of a bread taste, but not to much
The Seeds- Although there are seeds on top, the taste of seeds are nonexisting
Overall this chip has great flavor just not accurate, but you should definitely give this chip a try if your into Cheddar & Sour Cream Chips.
